I am absolutely amazed that more people haven't added comments about Tom.  Tom lost his life serving his country in Vietnam.  He was a class guy, usually pretty low-keyed but always enjoyable to be around.  I envied Tom because of the way he demonstrated quiet confidence, not needing to try to prove himself to everybody.  (I also envied him because he was a darn good tennis player, something I could never master.)  Who lives and who dies in senseless wars has always been a mystery to me.  Thank you Tom for being there for all of us.

I am not proud of this country we all love who sent my neighbor and classmate to die for what we now know to be an unjust cause. I have stood at the Wall in Washinton and wept for Tom and others. I have seen many war memorials but have never seen the masses of people who still stand in silence and weep for these men and women. And I believe we weep as much because of what we did to them, as for what happened to them. I'm sorry Tom that I lived a life you were denied and that you died in vain. Where but by fortune go I...
