Jeanne was my first girlfriend. Well, as much as you can have a girlfriend at thirteen. We met in 7 th grade and shared many of the same friends in junior high. I knew she was my girlfriend because we always seemed to pair off together at those infamous early teen basement parties. Later in high school, even though we didn't date much we'd sometimes skip school and hang out together.

Do opposites attract? Jeanne was shy and withdrawn and even when she called me ten years ago she still had a young girl's smile in her voice and a light giggle/laugh. She wasn't well known around school but she had a core group of friends who remained steadfastly loyal throughout her life.

Her mother died when she was young and there was just her and her father when she was a teen. I think all she wanted in life was a family. She told me later she had that. And even though her husband had died she had a loving son and enjoyed her life.

Today, questions like, "who was your first girlfriend?" are just password questions on computers, but for me it always evokes fond memories of this wonderful person...

my most vivid memory of Jeanne was from 6th grade at Carlton.  She was an avid, avid Eddie Mathews fan.  Eddie as 3rd baseman for the Milwaukee Braves.  To this day when I hear anything about the Braves I think of Jeanne.
