Mr. Eberhardt was my dad's roommate at Oshkosh State Teacher's College. Apparently, they had a lot of interesting adventures together. When drafting class got dull, he'd tell us a story about what he and "Old Man Nelson" did. The one I remember most was during winter in the mid 20's. It was -20° and a local store keeper called the dorm and said he'd give a free quart of ice cream to anyone who would come and claim it. Dad and Mr. Eberhardt managed to get Dad's Model T to start and claimed the ice cream. When they returned to the dorm, the guys who wouldn't venture out chased them around the dorm. He said they locked themselves in the bathroom and ate it all.
We visited their family several times and enjoyed hanging with his sons who were a bit older than my brother and me.
