This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Garry,

Here's a good idea from your silicon valley friends up there. Where can I get one?

So I was thinking it may be interesting for everybody who comes to the Forum, regardless of whatever else they want to say, they should also list their 3 top movies of all time and their three favorite songs of all time!   I know, I know, an impossible task.  I've narrowed mine down to about 10 of each.  So what d'ya think?

I"ve struggled to get to: 1. Star Wars  2. Rear Window  3.  Good Will Hunting ... with apologies to Saving Private Ryan and Stand By Me.  (I hate Citizen Kane!)  The songs are going to take me longer especially with new songs like Gangnam Style and Call Me Maybe ... the videos, flash mobs, and parodies just slay me!

Oh Garry, the stuff you think up in the wee, sleepless hours!

Rising to the challenge:

“On Golden Pond”

“Dr. Zhivago”

“The Way We Were”

Songs are really hard; couldn’t make it to three:

Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 (preferably by Joan Baez)

Los Hermanos (Mercedes Sosa)

Alfonsina y el Mar

Shenandoah (our daughter’s arrangement)

I'm going to live in the moment because I can't choose my favorites of all time. Last night I was watching the Season 8 episode 20 of Criminal Minds, "Alchemy."  During the last scene Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gruber) is in a dream scene dancing with a lost love. I lay awake at least 10 minutes trying to remember the name of the song to which they were dancing - knowing it was popular during my early high school years. After discovering it on the internet - my new favorite song of the day is "Sleepwalk" by Santo and Johnny. I've been humming it all day.

@ Marion--Thanks for asking. Getting ready for my hip replacement and needed a complete physical prior to surgery. Stupid doctor did an EKG and found a very minor blurp. Hip doctor will not do surgery until he knows what the blurp is. Now have to go through a stress test to see if it is any big deal. What next? Otrherwise life is good up Nort.

The weird guys favorites:

Movies

The General (script writing made easy)

Singing in the Rain (just fun, entertaining, and some "how did he do that?')

Robin Hood (Star Wars, circa 1192)

Music

Anything by the We Five

Anything that has actual notes/words that sound just as good when not electronically morfed

This is SO HARD - I had to "tie" some of my choices. I could have duplicated most of Melody's - and Nancy, Dr. Z is right up there! but - trying to be original - here goes:

Movies:  All the Harry Potters, The Notebook, and Sleepless In Seattle/You've Got Mail (they're really the same wonderful movie!), and many, many more.

Songs: Moon River, Let It Be/Something (Beatles) (tied), and Desperado/Peaceful Easy Feeling (Eagles - also tied),  and many, many more. (All the songs in "I'm Gonna Sing My Head Off",  including Shenandoah.)

"Sleepwalk" is LIKE that, Marilyn. Kind of mesmerizing.

Hope all goes well, Ray.

Ray - Guys don't like to go to the doctor unless there's so much loss of blood that even they can see maybe a visit to the doc would be good.  So, if you are typical, you never knew you had a blip in your heartbeat.  I'll say a prayer that it's  something not critical and you can get the hip surgery over with.  Once you get geared up for surgery, any delays are painful.  Will watch for updated postings from you.  Marian

Everybody who went swimming in their pool today even though the water temp was a bit cool at 84 degrees, raise your hand.

The good news is that we hear how much water you have in the upper Midwest compared to the drought we're having In California.  We  may have to ration water, requiring us to shower with a neighbor.  We can just come to the picnic early and share a shower with our Wisconsin classmates .... right?  Right?  Hello!  Anybody home?

Garry,

Everybody who’s being an absolute jerk, raise your hand.

Besides, who wants to swim in 84 degrees? – that’s bathwater.

(Love 'ya back)

Garry,

Same here. Our pool is 84 degrees too. Is that a California law or something?

Ocean' s cooler, but it was kind of windy yesterday at the beach.

Phhhhhhhhhhhhhhbbbbttt!

Yes, I think it is a law here in CA.  We hit 95 in the Sacramento valley last week Wednesday.  Anything over 90 is too hot for me.  Would really love to have some rain, though...as Garry says, we do still have a drought going on here.  So anything you can spare from the Midwest would be appreciated!  But no white stuff, we only accept rain water; not the four letter s___ word, right Garry?

Nancy,

Were you giving us the raspberries, or trying to say something and your tongue was still frozen to something outside?

C'mon guys. I've been gardening in a t-shirt for days.

Summer may be short here, and arrive late, but it always gets here.

Have you seen the shape of the jet stream (omega)? Very strange..........

One of our classmates, Carol Zepezauer Drefahl, passed away today, May 8th, 2013.  She had been diagnosed with ALS Lou Gehrigs Disease.

Carol was one of my best friends, we knew each other from grade school, high school and even after we were married.

She was always fun to be around, and when I think of some of the crazy things we did, it brings a smile.  I lost track of her for almost 30 years, but found her again in 2002, because of the internet.  She wanted to come to the reunion, when we spoke last summer, but she was starting to have difficulty getting around, and driving.

She is at peace now, no longer trapped in a body that stopped working.  R. I. P. Carol,

I am glad that you were part of my life!    Karen

Karen - I'm sorry that you lost your friend. How good, though, that you found each other again - even if only for that short time. I never knew Carol - what an incredibly big (and diverse!) class we had.

Karen, I didn't know Carol, but your tribute is wonderful. Makes me wish I could have met her, and I'm so sorry she had to suffer with ALS.. Thank you for writing it.

RIP  Carol.   Carol and I had been in contact since the 50th year reunion.  It is so sad that we both could not attend. I also knew Carol from grade school,  all the way to Highschool.  She was fun to be with and was a friend that you could talk to on any subject..  She is in a better Place now.  I chatted with her Daughter  the day she died just a few hours after she passed.  Lets pray  for Lauire her daughter and family, we all know it is hard to loose a loved one.

This is a picture of Carol Zepezauer Drefahl, that her daughter posted on facebook this morning.

The picture was taken around 2003/2004.   Thank you for the beautiful tribute Sally.

Roy hit it on the nose, for those of us who did know her....she was always fun to be with.
