This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

OMG!!  I love the added music!!!  Did anyone say they live on Lake Minocqua?  Just curious

Someone mentioned bow and arrow.  My brothers and I used to go squirrel hunting with bow and arrow in Valhalla Cemetery.  We’d walk there, lose a few blunt head arrows and walk home.  I was allowed to ride the Fon du Lac bus downtown when I was 10.  Saw the movie the Fly in 3D.  Came out really scared.  Got on the wrong bus but when I saw Lake Michigan I got off and got on the right one headed west.  Ice skating at McGovern Park was the best – and swimming – and playing tennis.  We walked from 76th and Hampton where we lived then back home at dinnertime.

Jeanne...thanks for the update on Jerry.  Sorry to hear about his death, especially such a horrible way to go.

That must have been terrific to direct the same musical and even to using the same ball gown!  Wow!  Great opportunity!

Still wondering if anyone knows anything about Mike Minikel?  He was another musically talented classmate.

Hey Mel - I tried Michael Minikel on LinkedIn and I found a person who went to Spencerian/Concordia College from 1962 to 1966 and got a BBA degree!  If it's your Michael he's currently an accountant for  Ellis Island casino in Las Vegas!  I don't remember him as part of our class though, was he?

Dear Standing-In-Her-Kitchen-Without-a-Clue-Why:    My grand daughters and Terri thank you for sending them a class of water.  It was very touching.  You didn't, however, have to send us a rain shower in June ... our "dry" season!!!  I'm sure you need all the rain drops you can get in WI, MI and MN to save those little ponds around you.  Seen any lately?

Hey,

Excuse me for butting in on the memories, but who is going to the Reunion Picnic on September 7? I received an email from Angie last week telling me NO ONE has signed up yet.

I'm rather a beer snob Garry. With all the craft beer around Wisconsin, I turn up my nose on the likes of Blatz, Miller and Schlitz.

The Boergers have signed up for the picnic

Speaking of standing in the kitchen and wondering why you're there: that trick (I think Jim C. mentioned it) of going back to your previous room really works for me, every time! Our unseasonable rain front in CA  has been threatening our son's beach wedding today - but it seems to have gone away, replaced by cloudy weather in the 70s. We'll take it!! And speaking of the wedding, I don't think we can make the picnic as much as we really want to come - because the airfare on top of the wedding might not be a good combination at this time. I will raise some designer beers on the picnic day to you all! Or maybe at the last minute, things will look better and we'll come!

I'm waiting for a answer from Louise Poth Gaffney if we are coming to the picnic, would like to.

Marilyn,

I don't like beer of any kind - strictly wine for me.

How do you think it will look in the Milwaukee papers if they catch me with my flask ?.........."little old grey-haired lady arrested in the park for illegal possession".

Nancy, just do what everybody else does - put it in a water bottle and call it VitaWater!! I'm purely a wine and beer kind of girl. You oughta try some of the craft beers we brew in WI - don't even taste like beer anymore. Whatever that means!

06/26/13 12:31 PM #1135

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Marilyn - Good plan, I'll do exactly that. We're not usually in a situation where such subterfuge is necessary. Oh, yes, I remember now: our last cruise, where they confiscated wine on the way in (never happens on Holland America or Viking). Moral of the story: don't cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines (for more reasons than that one).

Ummmm, those craft beers............do they taste like wine?

For you 'up nort' wine people:

06/27/13 12:25 PM #1137

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Ha - ha!  Great one, Jim. Jon is putting it on his Facebook page right now for all his Menominee MI "up nort'" friends.

06/27/13 03:02 PM #1138

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Cute, Jim

Amazingly enough, the up nort' wine people actually make wine! Hard to believe that vines would survive this cold, but there is a vinyard about 20 miles from us (Stoney Acres) as well as enough of them across the state (Lelanau Peninsula)  to merit vinyard touring. Frankly, though, they're no comparison to what comes out of Chile and Argentina. Traverse City should probably stick to cherries ( a huge percentage of which were wiped out last year by bad weather).

Melody Jones (Parker)

Garry, in response to your 6/25 post; yes, Michael Minikel was a 1962 CHS graduate.  If you look at the name list, his name is there; name only, no info.  He played the guitar and sang was very good.  He also was in the chorus of "Oklahoma!".

Terri,

You left all of us in suspense. How did the wedding go? Did the weather cooperate? Did the happy couple have a happy day. How did the happy parents survive?

You might have sidetracked my bragging about CA. I keep telling those WI people the thing is not just that CA has nice weather, it's more that you can count on it being nice anytime and can plan ahead, things like outside weddings, months ahead and know the weather will be fine. And then you say your wedding may be weathered out. Ugh, the embarrasement.

p.s. But it rained on my son's wedding up in Lincoln last November too.

And Nancy,

Sure they make wine 'up nort' - but they make it out of things like dandelions, and swamp berries, apples, who knows, probably pine cones.

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Hi All - didn't mean to leave you in suspense, but it's been busy! Finally things have settled down. The wedding was beautiful, and so was the weather! But it was a close call. The photographer and the officiant were driving to the wedding in Carmel from Santa Cruz, about 30 miles north, and it was pouring rain. But as soon as they got near Carmel, the sun came out just in time for the wedding. The photos all have beautiful clouds above the ocean and rocks. I'll try to put up some photos on my profile page. But all the non-Californians must know, this kind of cold rainy weather NEVER happens in summer in California. Blame it on climate change!

We had a lovely sunny day today, a little on the warm side, 108 degrees, but this is a day away from July after all.

Our corn is very tall in the field, about 7 foot stalks and should be ready for harvest in another month.  Love the taste of the white corn out here, very sweet.  Funny, because back in Iowa, where I was born, white corn was only raised for the pigs.  People corn was always yellow.  Here in Nor Cal, we have yellow corn and white corn for people, but the white is sweeter.

Staying cool with my A/C!

I just noticed there is MUSIC! I love it!!! How long has this been going on, and is it just because I usually use my iPad that I didn't notice it before?

Oh yes. . . I loaded some photos of my son's wedding onto my profile page, but this one demonstrates the blue sky over the beach at Stewart's Cove, Carmel, CA that appeared just before the wedding.

Mel, one of the the best things about summer - whether Wis. or Cal. is the sweet corn! I had some white corn yesterday that tasted as sweet as candy.

Terri,  Love the picture of Carmel!  That area is very beautiful!  Also, love driving up and down Hwy1 especially down!

Melody – At 108 degrees, I would have to stay in the house all day – I don’t “do” heat.  Here we are, 71 degrees and sunny at 10 am. Our daughter and grand daughter just paddled by in their kayak (two years, three months – paddling away!) and will be back soon to spend an hour or so in the sandbox. Boy, is it nice to be retired and be a grandma!

ATTENTION Blob-alytes

The exciting goo returns! This Saturday morning, Turner Classic Movies.

Kick back, remember the aroma of fresh popcorn and flesh-eating protoplasm. Watch the sneaky red jelly ooooze out of the projection windows of the old Ritz theater. Picture Mr. Michalak opening Custer to let a bunch of wild teenagers in so they can save the world (well, at least north Milwaukee). Forget the time, think of it as a Saturday matinee.

Ahhh, here in the Bay Area of CA today will be the last day I can wear sleeveless tops for awhile. We've had 5 days of very, very hot summer temps. Now back to Spring temps for as far as I can see on the Weather Channel. It is the few days like these that justify people's expense of putting in backyard pools.

Sal - I am very skeptical about those Leno jaywalking people. I think they know that if they can "out-dumb" the next - or previous - interviewees, they will win the prize of "Most Ignorant" and be the topic of next day's conversations. Some people are so anxious to get on TV,  they will stoop as low as possible for their moment of fame. Check out all the reality TV shows, if you doubt this.

For I know that students, at least here in CA (state-mandated curriculum), still slave over American History in 5th,  8th and 11th grades. This morning our town's children went to the park for the annual 4th Parade, where - unlike my own childhood experience, where I merely (although gratefully)  received ice cream as my reward for completing the parade - our kids get to be greeted by Uncle Sam and readings of the Declaration of Independence. . . AND ice cream!

I would be much more optimistic about today's and tomorrow's children!

Terri,

I can't believe you're skeptical about the reality of reality shows and Jay-walking. You mean it's not true Americana? Bummer.

I was going to alert everyone on the new reality show where you can watch people test their memory, but I forgot what channel and what day it's on.
