Moved to San Jose, CA one week after H.S. graduation. Attended Foothill College & San Jose State; graduated 1967 w/ English major, music minor and a teaching credintiall in 1968. I taught grade 1 in Sunnyvale, then 1974 moved back to Wisconsin - Madison - taught preschool and worked in advertising for Madison Newspapers, Inc. Married Jon in 1980. When son JP was 2, moved to Savannah, GA - taught grades 5, 6 and K there 5 yrs. The heat and bugs (which were much harder on a midwesterner than cold winters) drove us back to CA 1988, just in time for the Loma Prieta quake. It's true what they say about the "Hotel California": you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave. Taught grades K and 1 in Cupertino School district until retiring in 2011, and subbed until becoming a city girl again, moving to Los Angeles in 2017 to be closer to JP and Vivian. I have retired from subbing here, but still do some tutoring. Walking the hills in our neighborhood is a real pleasure, with the payoff being fantastic views from the top. There is a lot of gardening to do with 5 fruit trees, and I still enjoy Facebooking, playing Words with Friends, doing genealogy and catching up on all the movies I missed. I've been back to beautiful Wisconsin three summers, catching up with friends and family.

School Story:

I have happy high school memories of orchestra, the King and I, and frosty Fall nights at football games (we usually lost, but kept the faith).

Happy birthday Jane. I remember you always arrived at the next age two months before I did. Back then, another year meant more privileges, but now it's just another year older! I hope the year to come is full of fun and surprises. Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion!

Dear Nancy: Happy, happy birthday from one of my "oldest" friends - in the sense that you were my Kindergarten classmate. Otherwise, one of my youngest friends! I hope the year ahead brings you peace, and happiness at your beautiful place Way Up North.

Nice to see you on the Custer site, Allen! The "orchestra kids" are showing up, one at a time, little by little! We were in the group that shared the guilt trip of dtiching the orchestra in favor of acting in the "King and I". But it was worth it - a very good memory of Custer. And you are also one of the group that headed for warmer weather, I see.

Happy birthday Rich! I think of you every time I pass the Apple Spaceship construction zone, and hope you are bearing up under all that commotion nearby. Have a great year ahead. Your neighbor, Terri Hoornstra

One thing there is PLENTY of in Germany is cool, clear water. I even have some videos of flowing streams and paddlewheels generating electricity.

I am so glad to have seen Mike at the reunion. I remember him especially from Sherwood's Speech class. Mike was the guy who knew everything about the stage, the backstage, the upper stage, etc. To get something done once regarding the staging, I remember climbing this winding stairway to a small upper windowed room where all kinds of buttons and gadgets were, and admiring the skill of anyone who could operate them. I remember his offbeat sense of humor. I am sad to know that he has passed.
