This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Thank John. I always watch for class news.

Thanks Gordon for the reply.

However, here we go again. My friend Richard (Dick) Baker, 78, passed away on Friday June 17, 2022 at the Milwaukee VA hospital. His death notice can be found in the Milwaukee Journal on Wednesday June 22, 2022.

Dick was a bit rough around the edges but was a friend to many and would do anything for you. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as their friend.

Louisiana provides strong competition for the mosquitoes of northern Wisconsin. We have two kinds. Some tiny ones follow the gnats through the screen wire. Then there are some large ones that are big enough to open the screen door! When they're finished, they call in the horse flies.

Mosquitoes need water to do their whoopee thing, so that leaves California out. I never really missed them living out there, but we actually have water here, so I'm getting reaquainted with them. I would imagine in Louisiana they challenge the gators as top predator.

Come to think of it, remember all those old, campy nuclear monster movies - giant ants, spiders, octopi, rabbits, scorpions, godzillas, et. al.? How come they never made one about giant mosquitoes? Or, maybe they just figured they were terrifying enough in their natural size.

Jim,

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of those monster movies were filmed in the bayous of South Louisiana. Except for the mosquitos and some feral hogs, we haven't seen much in the way of monsters in our area of Northern Louisiana. Guess the other exception would be the bass coming out of nearby Caney Lake.

And what do we do about it? Sadly, the definition of insanity.......

ATTENTION SPACE CADETS

You can now go to NASA.gov and see the first pics from the Webb telescope. WOW!

I saw this report on the Webb telescope on PBS. Miles O'Brien seems to love his job and is an interesting science reporter who makes it easier for us regular folks to understand.

While looking for that report, I ran across this page on the PBS site that has several stories about the Webb telescope.

I  hope the links work. If not, you can copy and paste, I'm sure.

I made circuit boards for 33 years. In the mid 70's, every military aircraft that the US had, had pc boards that I made in them. I also had boards that I made in the Lunar and Mars landers, the Apollo program, and the Hubble telescope. With this background, I follow the space program very closely. I've been to Cape Canaveral twice.. The first time, Apollo 15 was on the launch pad and Apollo 16 was in the assembly building. At that time, the tour of Cape Canaveral took you into the assembly building. When NASA started using solid fuel boosters, that ended.

Garry, computer question -

How many times do I have to click "I accept cookies" before they send me some?

07/21/22 06:21 PM #3263

Jim Cejka

Garry,

I get plenty of cookies at home without clicking nefarious, intrusive things on my computer, and my waistline (and A1c) show it.

And, I do some writing for some museums and stuff, many things that challenge autocorrect, so I am "flushed" with those experiences.

Does anyone know what ever happened to Victoria Sommer after graduation? I visited her at UW in Madison a few times and then loss track of her.

Living in SC for the last 57 years you loss track of a lot of people. Enjoy occasionally checking in to the website to see what is going on.

Well hello, other half of the South Carolina contingent.

We moved here and just managed to get settled when Covid hit. Haven't had much chance to explore. Here in Columbia, we've so far found the Capital, the zoo, and the world's largest fire hydrant.

Been to Charleston 4-5 times, and always manage to end up at the Aquarium or market, or both. I'm sure there's other things to see and do around there. Any suggestions?

Garry – Not sure what South Carolina you’re talking about. Cool and low humidity???? You got the sandy soil right though.

I had never heard of Ft. Jackson before we moved here. I’d heard of FT. Leonard Wood, Ft. Bragg, Ft. Knox, Camp Swampy, didn’t know Ft. Jackson was Army boot camp.

Speaking of – you guys got to go out to bars during boot camp? How nice. In Navy boot camp, if you or your company were really good, you got to go to a vending machine on base that sold apples.

Pebble Beach is beautiful. You hanging out there so you can get a good seat for the next tournament, whenever that is?

Jim Cejka

Garry -

Facetious? You mean Army boot camp was more than march around for a bit, pop a few rounds on the range, do a couple push-ups, and then go out and have a few beers with the boys? You could have fooled me.

I Googled "Dial M for Murder" and it came up.

I can make fun of you and Army boot camp. I was in Navy boot camp for a little over two years.

Garry,

I just noticed on the home page that you weren't sure if we gave a class gift. I believe we did - a flag pole for the "new" Custer football stadium. The joke was that at the ceremony, instead of giving Michalak a check, Tom Gibowski would just carry the flag pole in and hand it to him.

God save Welcome the Queen.

Doesn't the world seem a little emptier now?

Yes, Jim, and a little less gentile.

Won't make the reunion. Wish you all a great time and hope to see photos and videos.

Got a note about putting current address in info but do not find a place to add?  Help!

The "50th In Memory" video is wonderful. Any way to have that emailed?
