So, did “Masters” Jeopardy really prove anything? Holzhauer won, but many think Roach got gypped and, do we really know who is the Jeopardy master in terms of answers and questions? Not denying Holzhauer knows his stuff, but he is also (and by profession) much more adept at gambling and betting. They used a point system in the tournement, but it still reflected the betting. What if they took the gambling out? Use a point system, pure and simple. One point for each correct answer, 2 points for a Double Jeopardy, 3 for Final Jeopardy. Most points wins the day, and another point. Most points, i.e., correct questions, through the whole thing wins the tournament, period. All emphasis is on getting the most questions correct, and the only variable is reaction time - who can push the button fastest. They could even do it like a golf tournament, so Garry might like it. After the first week, round, or whatever, have a “cut,.” Just like that other “Masters.” Points below you’re out, points over, you play the next rounds. Smart is the real winner.
Leave the gambling and betting stuff out of it. Let that for all the folks in the sports bars, which I’m sure would cover a Jeopardy Tournament, with an appropriate atmosphere of beer, pizza, burgers, and beer.
