This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Beautiful Jeanne, it's like a presentation from the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Or Christmas Present, Jim - depends..........

Right Nancy, but I remember football games in the snow, climbing on snowbanks to watch the Santa Claus parade on Vliet St the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the winners of WTMJ's "guess the first snowfall" always being in November and often October, and always, always a white Christmas. Now, at least in the Milwaukee area, it's lucky to get snow by Christmas.

And so, as Tiny Tim said, "A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!

Jeanne - Thanks for sharing ... absolutely gorgeous!  Wish I could see it at night when you have the Christmas lights turned on (although buring the Brewer sign would be nice as well!).  If there's one memory of Milwaukee I miss it's Christmas lights on all the houses during a fresh snowfall.

May all of you be surrounded by peace, love and joy that is Christmas.  Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all from the folks in Louisiana, where it's a bit chilly today; in the mid-30's. We know it's a lot colder in Milwaukee, but that's the main reason we moved South - to get away from snow and cold. No snow here. We're still dealing with falling leaves. A storm a couple of days ago should have finally cleared off the trees.

Our kids won't arrive until the 26th, so we're delaying things a bit this year, but makes no real difference. Had we known that sooner, we could've waited to buy presents until after-Christmas sales! :)

We hope 2014 is the best ever for all of you and yours!

A very Merry Christmas to all.

Tomorrow will be near 70 with 20 to 30 mph winds, gusting to 45. No snow here in Arizona; but, the constant wind is getting a little tiresome.

A very merry Christmas to all my Custer classmates from Cupertino, California. It got up to 70° today, but now down to 45° for a chilly Christmas night. Santa should feel right at home, even without the snow! It's nice to know the same beautiful half moon is shining down on all of us, wherever we are today. Best wishes for 2014.

Bob Hope Christmas show, Vietnam, 1966, photographer, yours truely. Watched these shows on TV, never thought I'd actually attend one. Something special. Thanks Bob, for the memories.

Jim,

Thanks for the memories! Our CO had the entire company, except for a few who needed to stay on duty, hop on trucks for we didn't know where. I just happened to have my camera with me and it was quite a surprise. We sat on the side of a mountain near DaNang and watched his show in 1967. We were nearly a block from the stage, it seemed, but the show was greatly appreciated. I took a couple of pictures too, but I'm not sure where they are at the moment.

Bill,

That's where we were. Some hillside betwen our base and DaNang in '66. The monsoon let up just long enough to get the show in. Didn't care how high or wet I was, the girls looked good.

Sometime later, Nancy Sinatra came to do a 1 girl, about 3 song show at our base camp. She landed in a Huey, jumped out wearing a mini-skirt, those boots (made for walkin'), and big bushy blond hairdo. Know what Huey propwash does to big bushy blond hairdo? I was manning the BAS so I couldn't get close, but it was the thought that counted.

Karen,

I really like your Christmas card. Here is another one I like. You can add this to your collection. Having visited Israel earlier this year, the meaning of CHRISTmas is very special.

Don't forget Col. Maggie; Martha Raye. She is the only civilian buried in the Ft. Bliss military cemetery. Do a search on her; really interesting. I'm surprised that she never did a USO tour with Bob Hope. They were two of a kind.

Lauren,

Jim's response surprised me, because I didn't quite recognize the background, but it's quite possible they didn't put the show in the same place every year. There were quite a few mountains in the area.

I was going to respond that the only other star I saw was Martha Raye and it was a total surprise. (As your message is.) I'd managed to get impetigo and had to go to a dispensary to see a doctor. It was far from a deluxe accomodation, but it was clean and got the job done. I bumped into a nurse in fatigues carrying a full bedpan, but somehow she didn't spill a drop. When she made a wisecrack about almost dropping her lunch, I dropped my jaw. Although I hadn't been a big Martha Raye fan, I instantly recognized that big mouth and the big smile that went with it. Her name tag on her fatigues confirmed it. Under the circumstances, I didn't shake her hand, but have been a fan ever since. Nobody ever announced her coming or what she was doing, but she performed a great service indeed!

As for Jim, we won't question his thoughts when he saw Nancy Sinatra. :)
