This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Hi Terri.  I just got back to Arizona late last night and the first thing I wanted to do today when I woke up is go to the reunion website.  Thank you for the slide show of Custer.  The auditorium does look bigger! Loved all the performances that were in the auditorium. I'll check my camera and phone and see if I have any worthwhile pictures to post.  I think I got carried away talking and forgot to focus on picture taking.  Hopefully the pictures taken by the hired pro will be posted.  What a great weekend.   During the rest of my time in Wisconsin I drove to Door County, and to Slinger to buy cheese, and to Holy Hill to see if any leaves were changing, and walked around Mauthe Lake, drove around the East side where we used to live - and had lots of good Wisconsin food with friends and family.  Summer really is over in the Phoenix area too.  It may hit 100 but not for more than an hour or so in the afternoon. It was 72 when I woke up.  Soooooo glad the reunion committee did such a great job and am anxious to see more photos coming in as time goes by.

Hi All,

I just got home from all the excitement of the reunion.  After the reunion I went to Illinois and spent some time with my sister and her family.

About the reunion.......WOW!!!   I thought it would  be fun, but it was way beyond anything that I imagined.  So good to see everyone!  We were and are a great group of people!

I am so happy I let Judy and Lee pester me till I decided to attend, and as a bonus Peggy came too!

Best weekend I had in a long time!

Wow,

What a great party and reunion - and I wasn't even there. Sounds like a good time was had by all. I do hope that we can stay together via this site.

Carol,

You mentioned big and small memories to share. Here's a couple:

Custer nostalgia

The fact that our class was the first class to start 10th grade and go through to graduate from the “new” Custer?

Helping find Mr. Royal’s car because he could never remember where he parked it, or if he even drove it that day?

Mr. Pautsch singing “I found my thrill…” in class?

The yearbook that was red and white – and blue – with that light blue swatch on the cover. How many painted it white?

Your locker combination?

Being a hall monitor?

Coming early and having to wait in the auditorium until homerooms were officially open?

Wet snowy clothes in your locker?

Sharing your locker?

The interesting odors coming from chemistry classes?

Hey gang,

This is a possible scam alert.  Yesterday in the mail I received a letter from a Richard Gaines in Portland, Or. informing me that if I sent him $33.95  he would ship me a 90 minute DVD of our class reunion.  I have seen no mention of it on this website and his name is not familiar so I was wondering if it is a scam or the real deal.

Does anybody have any info on this?

09/21/12 11:10 AM #405

Karen Gerstl (LeDuke)

I got it also, I sent a check in todays mail!  hope it is not a scam.

Mine was from Raines Video Productions, In Portland, OR.  I looked at the website, it looked legitimate to me.

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

I thought this was the official DVD of the reunion. Remember that guy with the camera going around and interviewing everybody? He also shows up on the video of the pom-pom routine, right in the middle of the group. And out of step, I might add. can someone from the committee confirm this?

I just replayed the In Memory video - still get choked up. Outstanding job on that!

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Hi all -

Funny that the letter we received from Portland, OR states that the reunion was held at the Marriott West Hotel in Pewaukee, WI. Pewaukee?

So, is this some slick operator trolling the web for reunion dates? I think I'll wait a bit and check before sending off our hard-earned $$$$$.

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

BTW -  does anyone know the final head count of people at the reunion? Just curious. All I know at this point is that there were more people than I could talk to in even two days!

Sandy Wachs (Oldham)

Hi all

Raines Video Productions from Portland, Oregon is legit.  The boy with the camera recording your comments was from this company.  At no cost to us, he sent someone to record our reunion, and then he will edit all the footage into a DVD that you can purchase.   Some of us did not get an opportunity to talk to everyone, so this option might be nice.  Some folks who could not make the reunion might really enjoy it.

We thought this was a nice product to make Available to our classmates.   So sorry for the confusion.

Sandy O

Thanks, Sandy, for clearing this up for us. One never knows these days. I can't tell you how many e mails I've received lately from people I know who say they are stranded in (----------------------here, there, or Timbuktu) and would I please send $$$$$$$$$$$$. Right. I'll get right on it.

Carol Albers (Pederson)

Hi Terri,

Rog said that 150 people came on Friday night and of the 221 that paid for dinner Sat.,, 216 came.  Glad you made it!  It was fun visiting with you.

Nancy,  believe or not the Marriot is in Waukesha but they call it the Pewaukee Marriott!  And to further complicate things, their letterhead says "Waukesha" and the website says "Pewaukee"!!!  So confusion still reigns!

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Thanks Sandy, for confirming the DVD vendor. I am excited to see the video, to see the interviews with the many people I didn't get to speak to. Now I understand why there were so many - thanks, Carol for the numbers. Wow! What a great turnout!

I am stranded in Bagdad, AZ.....please send money asap!

Carol Albers (Pederson)

Hey Jim,

Loved your memories!  You might be surprised to find out that our graduating class had students that started Custer in 9th grade.  We found out that out from Tom Winslow.  He was one of the group came to Custer as a 9th grader.

Probably not one of your memories, but walking home in a snowstorm when school closed in nylons and flats carrying my violin!

Squirt gun fights-or was that Edison.  (Threatening to put perfume in squirt gun.)

Band and orchestra performances!

Trying to get to my next class after first hour swim class-wet hair and all.  Of course, it was on the other side of the building.

The great smell of rolls baking in the kitchen off the cafeteria.  (My first locker was nearby)

Oh, and Mr. Royal's bow ties.

Oh and the dances.

Jim Cejka

Carol,

Yes, we should post and enjoy the memories. In a few years our senior memories will be turning into senior moments.

09/21/12 11:10 PM #416

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Thanks Carol & Jim - keep those memories coming! I do remember Mr. Royal's bow ties, and his misplacing his car. Instead of waiting in the auditorium, the girls HAD to come early -- to go into the restroom and take off our snowy-wet slacks which we had to wear under our skirts/dresses to keep warm while walking through that 10 feet of snow. If only the dress codes had changed about 10 years earlier!

09/22/12 08:51 AM #417

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Speaking of the girls' restroom -  during the dances, wasn't there always someone in there crying?

09/22/12 10:18 AM #418

Garry Sellers

Yes, I think Gordy Sauer was in there crying frequently.  He's very fragile and sensitive you know.

09/22/12 12:10 PM #419

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Yes, Nancy - and the funniest thing! When I chaperoned my son's 7th grade class dance, there were girls crying in the restroom. Some things never change. But Gordy???

09/22/12 12:53 PM #420

Karen Gerstl (LeDuke)

Why was Gordy in the girls restroom?

09/22/12 12:55 PM #421

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Terri,

Yes, Gordy. He was crying because only half of the girls in class had a crush on him.

I started 9th grade at Custer only to end up at Granville 3 weeks later.

I really missed Tom at the reunion.

I finally heard from my best buddy, Pete Kronschnabl. I will forward the link on to him.

Jim, hang in there. The "Big One" is still on the horizon. Your beachfront property awaits you.

Nancy, it was good to hear from you via this site.

Anyone, I am intersted in getting copies of the Custer Cronicle, too.

Sandy, sorry I did not get a chance to talk to you. I will send an email, soon.

Patricia McCarthy (McCarthy)

Ummm, Senor Cejka, what DO you mean "in a few years our senior memories will turn into senior moments"

Have you not been paying attention???? Most of us have already forgotten more than we thought we knew back then....it's the very same thing, only different.  Yup, you heard it HERE.

Friday night, as we were all standing in the lobby, sedately conversing, a youngish couple came up to us and said in disbelief, "Are you guys REALLY 68 ???" We spoke awhile and they went on to the wedding they were attending.  As they left, seeing us still right here they left us, they said "Are you absolutely SURE you're  68?  Wow, you guys look great!"  And it's true. WE DO.

That is only one of the amazing memories of last weekend. (I think I am finally "coming down" from it.)

09/22/12 05:15 PM #424

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Good to hear from you too, Ken.
How come we didn't really know each other very well at Custer?

Well, here we are - the only two graduates who live in Michigan. All those wussies who ran off to AZ and CA - what a bunch of losers! The wind is whipping across the lake like mad and the trees are turning. Now we'll see who's got the stuff to make it through another Michigan winter!
