This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Jim,

I'm looking forward to the matchup between the Pack and the 49ers on Sunday, September 8th!  I have a bet on that game.  I expect it to be a grudge match because of the loss to the 49ers during the playoffs last season.  Naturally, I bet the Pack to win!  Of course, never mind that I live in California now, 80 miles East of SFO!  Once a Packer fan-Always a Packer fan!!!...LOL!

When the Packers and Niners play, being a Bay Area resident (off and on) since 1962, I am still equally torn between the two teams. I find myself rooting for both of them, and being equally happy for the winner and sad for the loser.

" Go Pack, Go ! " Although, when I'm in Michigan; I root for the Lions. Unless they're playing the Packers. The same; when I'm in Arizona. Except, then it's the Cardinals instead of the Lions. I was surprised to find out how many Mexicans are Packer fans; when I lived in Deming, NM.

Almost didn't get to watch the game. Just before game time, the illustrious and beloved, but misunderstood, mayor of the neighboring big city decided to retire early, and the news coverages almost preempted the game. Fortunately, the local station doing the game decided the game had more appeal vs the mayor, so the Pack was on.

Hi, everyone! Just a short note to let you know I enjoy most of your commentaries.

It looks like I will finally be old enough to retire next year. My company is going to close my plant and move to Georgia.

Happy fishing!smiley

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Good for you! You'll love it, and within a short time you'll wonder how you ever had time to work.

I retired at 63. The company that I worked for in New Mexico had decided to close that plant. After looking at all of my options; which weren't much; not many jobs in that part of the country. I figured that S/S was my best option. I managed to make it 14 months past 62; vacation pay, severance pay, and savings. That extra 14 months cut 4% off of the early retirement penalty. After moving back to Milwaukee; I found out that another company bought the place. Maintenance personal were in the process of closing the building at the time. 14 workers were rehired. If I would have stuck around; I could have been one of them.

Retiring is fun. I've done it 3-4 times now.

Those of you N. CAers talk about splitting loyalties between the Pack and the 49ers. How come nobody's pulling for the Raiders?

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Good question. Beats me! Perhaps we don't want to be identified with the "Raider Nation" tattooed motorcycle gang types. Besides, they hardly ever win.

Terri has it partially right.  In order to be a Raider fan you have to have at least one and preferably two felony convictions, wear your colors (black) and don't expect anybody to ask how you got them, make sure any women and children in the stadium are met with a cascade of four letter words, and have gang tattoos around your neck and elbows ... at a minimum.  They should have stayed in LA!!!

Sorry about the delay in the loading of the homepage.  Too many videos and a MP3 player.  I can fix it if it's getting too frustrating for you folks.  You wouldn't believe the videos I already have cut to shorten the loading time.

As I said; I was surprised at how many Mexicans are Packer fans. But, the majority of them are either Raider fans or Cowboy fans.

So Garry,

How is it that you can describe Raider's fans so well? Hmmm.

Wanna see my tats?

08/27/13 02:29 PM #1263

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Garry - if memory serves, isn't your new grandchild too young to be speaking and using the phonolgical process of "fronting" ("tat" for "cat")? Or, does time fly by more quickly than we ever can imagine?

Okay, I'll bite. I wanna see your tats.

08/27/13 03:58 PM #1264

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

Ha! I bet it's your stupid tattoos you're showing off...............(I want to see only the smart ones)

Jim Cejka

Garry,

I would hope that you're referreing to the images, not their anatomical locations.

08/27/13 10:16 PM #1266

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

Fine, Garry - but do you have the black & silver leathers to go with those tats?

08/28/13 07:18 AM #1267

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

In the parking lot after a Raiders' game?

Oh well, "If you lie down with dogs..................."

Okay ... so I think somebody stole Lake Tahoe's south shore.  This is what the lake is suppose to look like:

Unfortunately smoke from the Yosemite (Rim) Fire, 125 miles away has made seeing more than a mile or two across the 26 mile long lake impossible.  This is what it looks like today when we got up here from the SF Bay Area.

(Carnilian Bay only a few miles wide yet you can't see the other shore.)

I am certain somebody stole the south shore where most of the gambling, big hotels, and commercialism is ... which is fine with us north shore people.  But it is rather rude and we'd appreciate having it back.

However, the fire has also jeopardized the water supply for the Bay area, not to mention our power supply.  I asked Nancy Boerger to see if she and a few of her Michigan militia members could send us a quart or two of water to put on the fire ... or for Terri to take her weekly shower.  As expected, Nancy snubbed her nose at us and went out and over-filled her hot tub.

08/29/13 10:28 AM #1269

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

That is SOOO sad! We had been thinking about going up there, but changed our minds - before the fire. But sorry, not putting the shower on hold!

OK Garry,

Does that mean that you're going to change the background music for the Forum to the Platter's "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"?

09/02/13 02:39 AM #1271

Melody Jones (Parker)

Garry and Terri,

I'm fortunate that our part of the valley has not had any smoke filled air.  Yolo county is the only place with air fit to breathe right now.  My kids were in Reno last weekend at a bowling tournament and said it will very difficult to breathe outside and inside.  Another week of 90 degree temps with no rain; will not be a help to the firefighters.

OK, so I wasn't there, but could someone, without mentioning names of course, verify if this was true or not?

A man and his wife were sitting at a table at his high school reunion, and he kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

The wife asked, 'Do you know her?'

'Yes,'he sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'

'My God!' says the wife, 'who would think a person could  go on celebrating that long?'

Thanks - needed a good laugh!!!

According to my calculations, that picnic should be starting in a few minutes. We should expect to see the first casualty reports in about an hour or so.

Think I'll go down to the beach and wait it out, at least it's not raining there.
