This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

First; Happy Birthday Carol. You beat me by a day. And, I'm assuming that you hit the 70, same as me.

We've had 6 or 7 days in the low 100's in Bullhead City, in the last month. And about 3 months in the upper 80's and low 90's. It's supposed to be in the 100's again, the weekend after this coming weekend. It's a good thing that we're leaving for Michigan on Saturday. Will have to get used to a 50 degree drop in temperature though and rain. It's rained twice this year here. A total of a quarter inch.

A quarter inch? We can get that from the dew condensing every morning.

Good one, Nancy!

We had horrible storms here yesterday & last night - they just wouldn't end.  Had four inches of rain in about an hour, I believe.  Ping pong ball sized hail & 60 mph winds.  Just a beautiful spring day in Wisconsin.  We had to "pay" for our lovely Mother's Day weather - it was gorgeous on Sunday.

Glad to hear about the boot, Jeanne.  I remember how excited my daughter was when she could take her boot off at night - she had broken her ankle.

Would be sooooo nice if healing could go faster!

Yes, Barbara...it's a bonus being able to remove the boot at night. It was a nice birthday gift to hear this. BUT--when one has to use the facility 1 or 2 times during the night, the on/off, on/off of the boot can be a pain. Ah, well, one has to be satisfied with any small gift. My surgeon keeps telling me that I have to be patient! Arrrrgh!!

Right on...TERRIBLE weather yesterday. If my husband and I had been physically capable, we might have started to build an ark!

The thermometer on the patio says 102 degrees - - - but it's a dry heat.

We saw 96° this afternoon - but now "cooled down" to 82° at 8:00 p.m. My heart goes out to all the folks in San Diego with their wildfires. I haven't heard anyone say how they started. With so many in close proximity, it seems like an arsonist is loose!

Forty degrees and raining here. Again.

Hard to take, but at least the house will still be here when the rain stops. I am sad for the newly homeless.

Judi and I are back in Michigan. We got back, late Tuesday afternoon. A four day drive. The weather forecast was for severe weather for most of the way. (Tornados in Oklahoma and Missouri) No tornados; just strong cross winds in Oklahoma; someone must have liked us. A little rain in Indianda. But, as soon as we hit the Michigan stateline, it made up for it. Moderate to heavy rain until just south of Lansing. The last 20 miles, we were lucky if I could see the end of the hood.

I'd forgotten what real rain was like. Have to get used to long pants and jackets again; haven't worn them for the last 4 months.

And, surprise; the town is redoing the street in front of the house; next month. New sewers, water, and gas lines. The gas was done sometime last month. The note that was left on the door was gone. So, I didn't know that the gas was shut off. Couldn't figure out at first, why I couldn't light the water heater or start the dryer. Glad that they can't dig in the winter; because, obviously, the furnace wasn't running either. Then, Judi found the letter that was enclosed in the gas bill. Called the gas company; and, they were out in a couple of hours. They turned the gas on and lit the pilot light on the water heater; but, couldn't get the furnace running. Called for heating service; and, they replaced a pressure valve. This was yesterday. Everything is now working.

40/50 degree drop in temperature; we're freezing. Almost forgot, I have to remove a maple branch from the top of our shed. I'm lucky, though. It just barely touched the roof.

Jim - When I lived in Phoenix for 10 years I'd tell my Wisconsin family that it was 116 today.  They'd say, "Yeah, but it's a dry heat."  My response is that they cook turkeys in dry heat!

Played golf in 95 degree heat Tuesday, played with grandkids in 100+ heat in Dublin, CA Wednesday and then left for Lake Tahoe where it hit 72 today at a mile high.  Perfect!!!  Now if only I could find this lake that use to be 26 miles across!!!  Where's the water going, the local Indian tribe has the rights to release as much water as they see fit to keep their fishing in the Truckee River alive ... although they don't do it any more.  And to provide Reno with all the water they want from the Truckee.  What's wrong with this picture?   As a nation we need to collectively go into extensive therapy!!!

Jeanne, if you'd just give up that indoor soccer maybe you wouldn't have to be talking about boots and stuff.  And don't hang around with Barbara or Ray!  I always said they were bad influences!!!

Can You Hear Me Now?

Jim,

About 30-years ago I attended training in Phoenix a couple of times. First time in January, when I discovered that area can have flash floods, and the second time in June-July. That's when we experienced the "dry heat." I reminded them that an arc welder also produces dry heat. I will have to admit it's less oppresive than Louisiana's often sweltering summers.

When I lived near the border in New Mexico; I got the " But, it's a dry heat " all the time. When it's a 120 in the shade ( that's by my termometer, not the offical temp ); I don't care what anyone says IT"S HOT.

And I was a firefighter for 40 years - lots of 'dry heat.'

Jeanne, remember "These Boots Were Made for Walkin' . . . ." Maybe Garry will add that one to the playlist here, just for you.

Hey, Jim...My boot is getting more usage each day. I'm supposed to get in some in-house walking every hour, no particular distance, just walking. As of today, I'm supposed to add a little more weight on my foot/leg. By the time I see my surgeon on June 2nd, my therapist would like me to be at 75% so that, hopefully, I might be able to give up the boot. But for now, Nancy Sinatra's tune continues to run through my brain. Gotta go now...time to walk!

Okay, you asked for it but if I put the Jessica Simpson version on we'd have to reclassify the website for adults only ... and we don't have too many of them in our class!   The Nancy Sinatra version has over 25 million plays ... probably all from Jim Cejka!  I tried putting on the video directly but then two different songs are playing at the same time.  Not good.  Try this link Jeanne!

Nancy showed up at our battalion in 'Nam to do an impromptu USO show. Mini-skirt, those boots, and a hairdo that was instantly blown to frizz by the propwash of her Huey. Of course, as the BAS corpsman, I had to be there in case she got hurt.

Nancy Davison (Boerger)

That was a big sacrifice, Jim, but somebody had to do it.

Garry--You are too kind!

Jim, did you have the first aid training required to mend Nancy's hairdo?

Just doing my duty folks, just doing my duty.

Jeanne,

I can sure relate about having to put the boot on during those "calls" during the night - I had to put my back brace on every time I got up.  And, of course, they want you to drink a lot of water!  "Patience" must be a word that all the docs use.

Jim is such a trooper!

05/18/14 05:50 PM #1646

Jeanne Zinser (Gottschalk)

Barb--

Thanks for the "sympathy vote" regarding nighttime visitations. But I'd guess that a back brace is a little more complicated to put back on and off and on and off...than my boot. I'm just dealing with the inconvenience of miles of Velcro and worrying about not peeing in my pants!

"PATIENCE"--a 4-letter word for patients!

"I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that the half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did."

Thanks, Jim and thanks to Garry for the Memorial Day Tribute video.  And thanks to all our classmates who have served in the military!

Here's a question for the webmaster - in my e-mail there is a new one to Custer High School Class of 1962 - New Message Forum post, etc.  Should I just delete it?  I didn't open it.
