This message forum is an ongoing discussion about anything and just about everything ... within reason.  One thing our class was good at was having opinions.  Almost 70 years of life experience certainly qualifies us as experts on most everything!   Ask a question ... give an opinion ... share some insights ... it's our web site, it's our forum.  That said, it's probably not a good idea to get into arguments about politics, religion, and the like.  While we're experts on everything, we also have a wide range of values and beliefs. This site belongs to all of us ... the whole range ... and we are not here to isolate, alienate, or subjugate anybody.  Of course insults, humiliation, sophomoric barraggadocio, and demented humor is expected behavior among some of us less mature people.

Here's something to play with. I got a score of 130. Most of the questions are similiar to what you see on the sample MENSA tests.   You may have to copy and paste to get to the site.  See you at the picnic.

I wish I could make it for the picnic. We already had plans for this weekend - made some time ago. We will miss you.

Lu and I have 15 grandchildren with a great grandchild due in December.

I finally decided to retire last Friday. Now I have to figure out what I am going to do when I grow up

Ken, congrats on your retirement. If you're retirement is anything like mine, you will find yourself just as busy if not busier than before. But, most of what you will be doing are things you didn't have time for while you were working. Now you can do a lot of those "fun" things you just didn't have time for before. As far as "growing up". Why! Growing up is way over-rated.

Gary,

If you're supposed to avoid sharp objects; I'd question an agrarian lifestyle. I remember spending my Dad's vacation on my Grandfather's small farm. ( very small farm, as my Grandfather was in his 80's ) There are a lot of sharp objects on a farm.

Garry,

Were you referring to a California agrarian lifestyle?

Chong: You know what we should invest in? An old age home for hippies, man. Cause, think about it, hippies have been around since like the 60's, and now there ain't really a hip place for them to go anymore. So, you know, it would be a home where they could smoke all the dope and **** they'd want and listen to all the music they want, you know.

Cheech: Oh yeah, we could call it, like,  'Laidback Manor'.

Speaking of s home for hippies; has anyone noticed that Tommy Chong is going to be on Dancing With the Stars ? Will have to watch at least the first episode.

Also, regarding Hippies; I was at Wisconsin's version of Woodstock; which occurred about a month later. It was in a hayfield outside of Iola, WI. I have a brother who lives near Iola. We drank beer all day at Big Falls, WI's homecoming celebration; and, then drank warm Ripple all night at the Rock Festival. I don't remember very much about it. But, it was reported to be better than Woodstock.

Once again, our Reunion Committee did an excellent job!  The picnic on Saturday was just great.  And I understand the Committee even ordered our spectacular weather!!

Many thanks!!

I'd like to thank all the folks who were responsible for the great Reunion Picnic on Saturday.  The park was a beautiful choice (I'd never been there before) and had everything a person/family could want.  It was so nice to see everyone again.  I didn't attend the 50th Reunion but will plan on going to the 55th!  Everyone was so welcoming to both Jolene and myself - we both had a wonderful time.  The food was fantastic, about the only thing missing was the ability to bring wine!!  Even the weather cooperated.....now That's Planning!  I hope to see even MORE of my former classmates at the 55th!        Note:  I really didn't remember ALL the Guys who walked me home from Smith Park  - but it HAS been 50+ years!     Again, THANKS!

So, the picnic gods shined upon this year's Custer picnic. The sky cleared, and the mosquitos apparently dined elsewhere. Kudos to the committee for another achievement.

For us Californians who could not make it, maybe we should invite those cheese heads to a sun and warmth whoop-te-do out here, like a beach party - in like, February. We have the wine, and instead of charging them for stuff, they just have them bring water, lots of water. Liquid or stiff, doesn't matter. If the airlines allow 2 checked bags, they could fill them with ice or snow and check them.  Anything would help here.

Hey Jim,

Yesterday I read an article that a nudist camp in Calif. was in BIG TROUBLE as they had diverted a water pipe & were stealing water.  Now, that is just BAD!!  I think part of their punishment was to have to put some clothes on!

Barb,

One of the volunteer fire departments out here was fined and recently disbanded because they took water from a neighboring town's hydrant to fill someone's pool.

Getting vicious out there!

I'd like to volunteer our snow, come winter, to help you guys out!

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

This morning - RAIN!!!! Glistening drops falling off the awning. Puddles on the patio. Some strange, seldom-seen puffy, gray things covering the sky. A new crop of about 25 mushrooms appeared in the lawn. Come again another day, please!

09/19/14 07:25 PM #1764

Jim Cejka

Oh yeah, Terri. You used it all up before it could get even 60 miles to us in-landers.

09/20/14 08:27 PM #1765

Melody Jones (Parker)

Terri...rain??...what rain???

Were you smoking Jim's agricultural crops???  I did not have any rain!!!  Not fair!

09/21/14 07:32 PM #1766

Terri Levenhagen (Hoornstra)

No, sad to say, - no agricultural crops - but a nice morning shower on the 18th. No more in sight, that I can see on the Weather Channel. I think it moved on up to Tahoe. But I heard there are thundershowers predicted today  in the mountains that might help the wildfires!

Melody Jones (Parker)

Terri, looking at my week ahead they are calling for rain on Thursday; but I am not going to hold my breath!  Rain up in the mountains on the King fire would be nice.  Even though we are 22 miles west of Sacramento, we still have a hazy smoke in the air from that fire.  My grandson was scheduled to play football againt Placerville on Saturday but the game was cancelled due to smoke in their air.  A really plentiful drenching rain would be most welcome.

By the way, what in the world happened to our Pack on Sunday???  My grandson can play better than that!!!

09/23/14 12:02 PM #1768

Jim Cejka

Melody,

According to the news folks, you should hold your breath. Looks like you're in that smoke/poor air zone.

I'd hoped when I heard about that rain, but it looks like it'll be north of us. At least we had some clouds the other day.

09/24/14 06:22 PM #1769

Melody Jones (Parker)

Jim, you right about holding my breath...I am in line with smoke choked air and with respiratory problems as I write this.   But, if the reports of rain are to be believed, I can expect those precious drops of water to fall from the sky around 4 A.M. so I will keep you posted...

It actually rained in Sunny California!!!

Jim--

Hope you got out there singing while swinging on lamp-posts! Here's to much more to come!

Yes, RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! and the King fire is 68% contained as of Friday noon.  The rain came gently Thursday morning, washing my car in the process.  By the time I was out the door at 10A.M. it was gone.  I like polite rain like that!  And...there is a forecast of snow in the Sierra mountains at Lake Taho beginning tomorrow at the 8,000 ft. level.  Our snow is also polite like that, never see any of it on my doorstep, it stays up in the mountains where it belongs...LOL!

Remember back when you had the flu or tummy yuckies, and Grandma or Mom gave you "white" soda and crackers. Sure wanted some of them last weekend.
